It is such an exciting time for us because Virginia has really taken a liking to books. This is something I imagined and thought about long before I had a baby- how fun it would be to share books with my children. For many months, she either seemed disinterested or she would violently rip the book out of my hands so that she could chew on it.
But we have turned a corner and she likes reading! Hooray!! She understands what I'm saying when I ask her if she wants to read a book and she turns the pages by herself. She has definite preferences: her favorite books are
Good Night, Gorilla; Denise Fleming's
The Everything Book (a book I really didn't "get" at all because it's extremely random and all over the place. It just goes to show that you can't anticipate the fondness kids will develop over certain books.);
Goodnight Moon;
Barnyard Banter; and most of all,
Who Are You? by Stella Blackstone.
She decidedly does not like
Piggies or
Freight Train, which I thought she would because it's so spare and visually interesting.
Finally, the pincer grasp has made lift-the-flap books thrilling!
