my grandma finally had the chance to meet her namesake yesterday. virginia loved her (as everyone does) but at times she felt overwhelmed by so much excitement. here is a funny series that captured one of her shifts of emotion:

five months old!

this has been the most fun month yet! virginia is full of personality; she makes us smile and laugh all the time. she is also getting cuter by the day.

i just finished making some food for virginia: acorn squash, peas, and sweet potato. it was oddly satisfying and fun! i will freeze these to use later.



she was so ready to start solids and took to rice cereal like a pro.



however, her next culinary experience involved avocado and her reaction was extremely dramatic: she stuck out her tongue and shook her head back and forth!

rolling over

virginia has been rolling over for some time now but it's funny because she doesn't seem to enjoy this new skill. she will roll from back to front more often; she has only rolled the other way once. lately, she will roll over quite often when we place her on her back but then she gets stuck there and gets upset, as she's never been one for "tummy time".

little miss personality

all of a sudden, virginia has started to notice other people. until now, she would look around at everything but not really seem to be too interested in other babies. this is such an exciting change. our birth-to-three group met for a picnic the other day. i was a bit nervous because she hadn't napped and i wondered if she was going to be cranky. but she sprung to life once she saw the other babies. it was really cute and unexpected. with one friend in particular, she would squeal in delight whenever they made eye contact. she was making all of us laugh. we caught a bit of it on video. it makes me laugh every time i watch it. and here are some photos from our meeting last night:
