four months old!

we are reaching the end of virginia's fourth month and cannot believe how much she has changed. she seems much happier now and smiles a lot. she definitely still has her serious side and strangers who try unsuccessfully to make her smile will sometimes say something like, "oh, you're frowning." or "it's probably just that she doesn't know me." but i just think fondly to myself, that's our virginia. she is very true to herself and only smiles when she wants to and that makes her seem like such a genuine person to me. i admire her strong personality and hope to be able to encourage her to be herself throughout life.

she no longer has her hands clenched in fists and she reaches out to get a hold of things and put them in her mouth. she still loves bath time and has become quite talkative, possibly in response to my incessant (and often ridiculous) jabbering all day long. she has outgrown her black & white "friends"- she used to smile at them way more than at us but now ignores them.

probably one of the cutest things she does now is "singing" along with us when we sing to her- especially to "where is thumbkin?" oh, she also moves her head back and forth when she's lying on the bed between us, looking from mom to dad and back as if to reassure herself that we're both there. and sometimes she'll smile while she does it. so cute!
